Regional Voting Is Killing This Game.
I had decided not to talk about the region thing but after realising that it is becoming rife all over the online platforms, I too had to raise my opinion about it despite its sensitivity, because I feel compelled to rectify a general misconception. My summarized view is that The Big Brother Africa game is losing it’s direction because of the regional alliances.
Before Nigeria won the 3 consecutive times, I don’t remember housemates ganging-up against fellow housemates basing on regions and rarely did we hear fans quetching that we had winners who really did not deserve to win! My own realisation of the fact that Nigeria played some kind of important role somewhere in determining who to leave the house, came when people started ganging up in #Teams asking people to vote for the housemate(s) they wanted. Since then, this became a habit every season that Nigeria and the West African countries are taken as a threat to the game by both the housemates and fans.
After Nigeria’s three wins, SADC alliances developed an “anyone but not Nigeria” operation where they could vote and support any housemate but not a Nigerian! The bad thing was that it was clearly voiced out by the fans using online platforms. The most evident one was last season when Nigeria had two housemates on the final plus their Ghanaian brother (Melvin,Esther and Elikem). People from the SADC alliance where happy and clearly said it that there was no way Nigeria or West Africa was going to divide their votes among the three housemates despite the fact that some were silently appreciating Melvin’s game. Guess what happened, they voted Dillish whose win up to now is still doubted.
I have n0 problem with this ganging up for or against because at the end of the day it is the numbers that matter, not so? But the worry should be; Who to gang up for? Because we might have undeserving winners just because they had the numbers from the alliances. For a couple of times we have had shocking evictions because the housemates didn’t get enough votes to keep them in the house. I will single out only last year’s Denzel who every person believed was absolute entertainment but he got booted in the very first week. Others have been falling victims of the alliance thing and I believe every single avid watcher has a list.
People are always blaming Nigeria for these alliances but the fact is that they have been promoted and carried on by other regions. For instance, when did South Africa vote for a Nigerian winner? But we all remember that Nigeria gave Keagan a vote despite the fact that they had Prezzo who they were supporting because of his connection with Goldie(R.I.P). This clearly tells which region will have no winners until we go back for entertainment instead of voting for our OWN. In this case, East Africa is totally disadvantaged because of small populations and being only three countries. We are waiting to see if Rwanda will join the EA alliance or the already established big numbers.
In my conclusion, though heavily populated and voting freaks, Nigeria remains one country…. its is the rest of Africa that are playing a big role in regional alliances which are killing the game.
